Review: The View from Saturday by E.L. Konigsburg

The View from Saturday by E.L. Konigsburg is exactly what I needed on a morose, rainy night.

After ten years, Mrs. Olinski had decided to come back to teaching sixth-graders. But since she left, sixth-graders had changed. They had gone from saying “Now what?” to “So what?” Noah, Nadia, Ethan, and Julian were the exceptions.

In this brilliantly arranged novel, E.L. Konigsburg slowly unravels how Mrs. Olinski comes by her sixth-grade Academic Bowl team. She allows us to learn about each of the four Souls through short, but significant, windows into their lives. We later discover how they find each other over tea and Alice in Wonderland.

The View from Saturday is a story about journeys. It is a story about kindness, about waking up, about discovery. E.L. Konigsburg has magic coming off the tip of her pen nib.

This was a post by Kubi, whose faith in humanity has been restored.
